Position Information

Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services is seeking an experienced and strategic Warehouse Supervisor to manage the Water Pollution Control Bureau's (WPCB) Warehouse. The WPCB warehouse supports the operations of the advanced wastewater treatment plant and pump stations by supplying all of their materials. This employee is responsible for providing leadership to warehouse staff, performing inventory control administration, supplying all materials, and buying for two warehouses (one main and one satellite).

Specific duties include:
  • Creating and monitoring requisitions and purchase orders using MP2 software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS);
  • Supervising two warehouse technicians and temporary staff who purchase, receive, and store supplies, tools, and materials and who use CMMS and MP2 systems to update inventory;
  • Updating, monitoring, and documenting inventory processes and security measures to ensure accurate accounting, and warehouse policies, procedures and operations to ensure compliance with financial, purchasing and industry standards/regulations;
  • Utilizing existing methods and implementing additional quality control procedures and monitoring the work of staff to ensure that inventory records reflect all supply transactions;
  • Working with the Planning Department to select and optimize materials to be stocked with the quantities to support the Maintenance Department's Condition-Based Maintenance program;
  • Managing the buying process through the centralized financial system (PRISM);
  • Monitoring payment of invoices;
  • Monitoring the performance of contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications;
  • Planning and conducting daily cycle counts to maintain and ensure an accurate inventory; and
  • Developing and monitoring performance measures and providing program management reports and records using MS Office Suite software.

Selection Criteria

Minimum: High School Diploma, GED or the equivalent, plus three years of progressively responsible technical and administrative work related to warehouse operations and/or management, including the following: buying, receiving, storing and issuing supplies/tools, materials, parts and equipment and maintaining the associated records systems. Experience must include at least one year of buying experience.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis: two (2) years = six (6) months of experience; four (4) years = one (1) year of experience.

Additional experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of high school on a year for year basis.

Education may not substitute for more than one year of experience and may not replace the year of buying experience.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Warehouse operations and/or management in an industrial environment or for a plant or wastewater treatment or related type of facility; and/or
  • Using MP2 software or CMMS system.


Special Requirements

1) Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's state of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of, the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

2) Must possess valid forklift certification or have the ability to obtain forklift certification within six (6) months.

3) Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

4) Must be able to climb ladders up to 10 feet in height.

5) Must be able to make confined space entry into designated spaces and tanks according to Arlington County, OSHA, and facility requirements.

Additional Information

Work hours: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with occasional overtime, evening and weekend work required.

Permanent, Full-Time Appointments
All jobs are permanent, full-time appointments unless otherwise stated in the announcement. The following benefits are available:

Paid Leave : Vacation leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. Leave accrual increases every three years until eight hours of leave are earned biweekly for twelve or more years of service. Sick leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. There are eleven paid holidays each year.

Health and Dental Insurance : Three group health insurance plans are offered - a network open access plan, a point-of-service plan, and a health maintenance organization. A group dental insurance plan is also offered. The County pays a significant portion of the premium for these plans for employees and their dependents. A discount vision plan is provided for eye care needs.

Life Insurance : A group term policy of basic life insurance is provided at no cost to employees. The benefit is one times annual salary. Additional life insurance is available with rates based on the employee's age and smoker/non-smoker status.

Retirement : The County offers three vehicles to help you prepare for retirement: a defined benefit plan, a defined contribution plan (401(a)), and a deferred compensation plan (457). The defined benefit plan provides a monthly retirement benefit based on your final average salary and years of service with the County. You contribute a portion of your salary on a pre-tax basis to this plan. General employees contribute 4% of pay; uniformed public safety employees contribute 7.5% of pay. Employees become vested in the plan at five years of service. The County also contributes to this plan.

For general employees, the County also contributes 4.2% of pay to a defined contribution plan (401(a)) . The County also matches your 457 contribution, up to $20 per pay period, in this plan. The 457 deferred compensation plan allows you to set aside money on either a pre-tax (457b) or post-tax (457 Roth) basis up to the IRS annual limit. New employees are automatically enrolled with a pre-tax contribution equal to 2% of your base pay.

Permanent, Part-Time Appointments:
Part time employees who work ten or more hours per week receive paid leave and benefits in proportion to the number of hours worked per week.

Limited Term Appointments:
Benefits are the same as permanent appointments except that the employees do not achieve permanent status.

Temporary Regular Appointments:
Temporary regular employees who work 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health, dental, and basic life insurance as described above. They are also eligible for vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.

Temporary Seasonal and Occasional Appointments:
Temporary employees who work on a seasonal basis or variable hours receive sick leave, but do not normally receive other paid leave or benefits. Exceptions are noted in individual announcements.
