An Overview
Alexandria Residential Treatment Center (ARTC) is an innovative, short-term residential treatment program located in the City of Alexandria Virginia. The program uses state of the art, best practice approaches to help clients achieve and maintain a life of recovery and meaning. The Senior Therapist provides clinical services (e.g. group, individual and family therapy, case management, crisis intervention, assessment and diagnostic services) to clients with substance abuse and co-occurring emotional, behavioral, physical, psychiatric or other related challenges.

What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate should be able to multi-task in an environment that is fast-paced and constantly evolving, working with clients who range in stages of early recovery up to thirty (30) days of sobriety, current treatment modalities recognized as evidence-based, crisis de-escalation/management skills, establishing and maintaining therapeutic boundaries, providing services to, and working with, a culturally diverse population, and conducting biopsychosocial assessments, including a mental status exam.

The Opportunity
  • Collaborates with clients to develop individualized treatment plans based on strengths, needs, abilities and preferences;
  • Implements group-oriented treatment and therapy programs using evidence-based approaches;
  • Facilitates individual and family therapy;
  • Provides case management services;
  • Provides crisis intervention services;
  • Facilitates treatment team meetings;
  • Interfaces with referral and collateral service providers to conduct outreach, transition coordination and treatment planning;
  • Prepares a variety of reports and documents, including clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan and progress notes, using a computerized clinical record;
  • Attends staff meetings, multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and training sessions;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About the Department
The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Possession of Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Education or related field; at least two years of post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to consumers having one or more substance abuse, psychiatric, and emotional disorders; and licensure or license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia licensure at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years post masters experience providing direct clinical services for substance abuse and co-occurring mental/physical health issues including individual, group, and family treatment. Minimum of one year of continuous employment in a mental health/substance abuse community agency environment. Fluent and Bilingual in both English and Spanish. At least twelve hours training in Motivational Interviewing. At least six months experience using an electronic clinical record system.

Notes

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; driver's license; and education/certifications.

Schedule: 40 hours / week with evening and weekends included.
