Job Description

The Washington Post is hiring a Full Stack engineer for our subscription team focusing on acquiring and retaining digital subscribers. In this role, you are directly working on a core strategic and business priority with a wide variety of teams that represent all aspects of The Post from Marketing to the Newsroom. Your job will be to rapidly iterate and deploy customer facing subscription features across The Washington Post digital landscape.

Sample projects include:
  • Prototype then deploy a new type of subscription that targets Opinions readers
  • Work with Marketing to develop new tools to work in an evolving digital landscape

  • Collaborate with team members in designing and building highly-scalable backend services and applications for The Washington Post
  • Create and iterate on user facing solutions across devices and browsers.
  • Active participation on a scrum team including story grooming, planning work backlog, work estimation, sprint planning, retros, demos, etc.
  • Contribute to existing, platforms that have a critical role in supporting digital subscriptions on washingtonpost.com.
  • Work with a wide variety of engineering teams, design, product, marketing and newsroom stakeholders in the support and building of internal and public facing tools and applications.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in React or Angular JavaScript frameworks
  • Proficiency in at least one server side programming language; Node or Java
  • Experience with DevOps technologies like Docker, Jenkins, and AWS Products.
  • Familiarity with Git.
  • 2+ years of creating user facing experiences on production sites.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building web applications on AWS.
  • Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks.
  • Experience with DevOps teams that own the full engineering life cycle.
  • Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
  • Eagerness to explore and learn new programming languages, tools and applications.
  • Ability to quickly translate business requirements into prototypes
