Responsible for the processing and preparation of daily cash receipts, data entry for Membership, Subscriptions, Publications, Annual meeting transactions, and handling inquiries from internal and external customers.  Prepare cash receipts for bank deposits and maintains daily cash receipts logs.  Process cash receipts coding and subsequent data entry into the Accounting system.  Accept and process credit card transactions from membership; annual meeting registration; subscription; and publication sales, etc. as well as responds to credit card disputes.  Act as salesperson for APHA publication in-person office sales.  Respond to customer calls and inquiries and make collection calls on outstanding Accounts Receivable balances.  Prepare reports for management outlining success of calls.  Reconcile job related monthly general ledger accounts.  Maintain Cash Receipts files as well as various accounting records (A/R invoices, correspondence with customers, etc.).  Prepare all APHA sales invoices-Publications, Membership, and Annual Meeting.  Process weekly auto-draft and maintain the auto-draft list.  Maintain monthly section operating financial reports.  Accounts Payable (backup responsibilities):  Administer all aspects of the accounts payable/cash disbursement system including recording of invoices, tracking, review, approval and payment.  Process employee expense reports in compliance with organization travel policies.  Respond to all requests for W-9 forms, etc. as requested by outside vendors.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Associates Degree in Accounting required or equivalent work experience.  Bookkeeping experience in the accounts receivable/cash receipts area preferred. Candidate must be able to work effectively with staff, members and the general public.  Good communication skills are required.  Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.

Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.
