You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:
Applicants must also meet the Selective Placement Factor for this announcement:Selectee must be a current member in either the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society, either at the Associate or Fellow level, and be able to provide Statements of Actuarial Opinions. Documentation of that certification must be included in the application.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1510 series:
One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the next lower grade level;
and
A course of educational study that includes: A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Responsibilities
As a ACTUARY at the GS-1510-15 some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Providing expert advice and assistance to the DoD Chief Actuary in support of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness) on all actuarial matters bearing on current, proposed, or alternative DoD military personnel benefit programs, to include the military retiree health benefits and program costs.
- Conducting actuarial analysis and research in a number of highly significant areas including: the cost of current or proposed military benefit plans; the areas of current and alternative post-retirement health care for military members, dependents, and survivors.
- Serving as a principal advisor to the Chief Actuary on actuarial science as well as assisting in personnel hiring decisions, including recruiting.
- Reviewing and evaluating literature and legislative proposals, from an actuarial point of view, to modify the present military retirement health care system.
- Working closely with attorneys in drafting proposed legislative changes to insure proper interpretation and implementation of their actuarial recommendations.
- Working closely with the regulation writers on the implementation of proposals that are enacted into law.
- Preparing reports, briefings, conference presentation, etc., of analyses and research completed for professional journals as well as in laymen terms.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

- Extensive knowledge of civilian/military retiree health benefit programs.
- Applying analysis, statistics, mathematics, and finance to provide advanced plans covering the contingencies of military/civilian retiree health benefits.
- Developing alternatives to civilian/military retiree health benefits.
