Job Description Job Title: Linux/MS Systems Architect / Administrator for our client. Start: Long-term contract (6-12+ months) or Fulltime (potentially)Location: Hanover, MD SUMMARYResponsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the users. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE*Five years' min. work experience in complex systems design, software and support.*Computer literacy required.*Advanced knowledge of Microsoft and Linux Operating systems *Advanced knowledge of GSuite*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*Manages the day-to-day operations of the multiple systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair.*Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.*Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.*Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on systems. Provides server support related to other software.*Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the computer operating systems, disk arrays, switches, backup libraries and other components.*Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.*Provide support & troubleshooting from our Help Desk for hardware and software related issues.*Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.*Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.*Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.*Develops tools, procedures, and training sessions for Users, Support and Systems Development staff to assist with work.*Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system.*Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology.*Complete special projects as requested.*Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES*Familiar with Programming and Scripting Languages is a must. *Windows & Linux System administration with enterprise Backup and Recovery *Virtualization of operating systems and applications.*Ability to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures*Excellent customer service and communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing.*Perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively*Excellent time management, organization, and coordination skills.*Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities.*Display discretion and maintain confidentiality of information both internally and externally.*Function with high level of attention to detail.*Display diplomacy and sound judgement*Deliver basic problem solving and prioritization skills independently. WORK ENVIRONMENTApproximately 80% of the day is spent using the computer. Working environment is the typical office atmosphere. Incumbent is on call to provide support services during off hours. Scheduled night and weekend work is required. Thirty-five (35) hours constitutes the regular work week. The working hours will be seven (7) with one hour lunch break per day. Flex time window applicable (7:30 am to 9:00 am). However, flex window hours are subject to change to assigned start time(s) based on departmental needs. NOTE - Moderate lifting may be required.
