What You Will Do: Under moderate supervision, the Radiological Technologist will perform radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. The employee will demonstrate a professional approach in their work, with emphasis on patient care and in their technical abilities to complete the requested exams promptly, while still maintaining patient safety. Be responsive in the need to use proper radiation safety principles, both for the safety of the patient as well as themselves and co-workers. Patients served include infant through adult-geriatric. This is a Per Diem Time / Day position located in Glen Burnie, MD Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. 1. Participates as a member of the Patient Care Team by providing direct patient care requiring the skills/qualifications of the Patient Care Specialist-Medical Radiation Technologist and collaborating with physicians, care team, and other support team members to meet patient's needs. 2. Demonstrates technical ability to work various radiographic equipment and room assignments; selecting radiography factors necessary in production of quality radiographs for radiologist's interpretation. 3. Practices proper radiation protection standards for patients, as well as for themselves, as per Radiation Safety Standards. 4. Performs quality assurance and quality control duties, as required. Assures proper patient identification is present and legible on all radiographs produced for interpretation. 5. Preforms assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status, relevant to radiographic procedure being performed. 6. Applies the principles of growth and development over the life span and assesses data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. a. Infant b. Child c. Adolescent d. Adult e. Adult-Geriatric 7. Demonstrates appropriate preparation of patient and equipment to effectively perform radiologic exam. 8. Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies. Maintains assigned area in a clean, sanitary, orderly manner. Keeps room adequately stocked with supplies. 9. Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision making for age specific designated patient populations. a. Infant b. Child c. Adolescent d. Adult e. Adult-Geriatric 10. Identifies patient/family learning needs based on radiologic procedure and implements appropriate measures to meet these. Communicates with physician, patient care unit, and the patient if a study has to be altered, postponed, or rescheduled. 11. Performs documentation regarding exam completion and patient's toleration of procedure in patient medical record, in a timely, accurate, concise, and legible manner. 12. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in generic and unit specific manuals; assists physicians with procedures; implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner. 13. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of healthcare members, patient care, and department activities. 14. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights, as identified within the institution. 15. Evaluates images, including anatomy and pathology factors, in order to obtain additional images in varied positions, if necessary for correct diagnosis. 16. Evaluates patient toleration of radiologic procedure. 17. Demonstrates the ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and employees, and the confidentiality of all hospital documents. 18. Prioritizes work responsibilities and manages multiple demands. 19. Participates actively in staff development activities for department of Radiology personnel. 20. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development needs. Participates in development and attainment of department of Radiology goals. 21. Participates in peer review and department of Radiology quality improvement activities. 22. Participates in standards development. 23. Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making. Accepts change as part of the problem-solving process. 24. Consistently applies resolutions that have been identified as effective. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using line of authority appropriately. 25. Attends hospital and departmental meetings as required or assigned. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. 2. Graduation from an approved and accredited radiologic educational program required. 3. Registration from the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists and license as a Radiological Technologist in the state of Maryland required. 4. Current BLS Certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. General knowledge of radiology principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning and nursing procedure. 2. Ability to operate radiology equipment such as radiographic machines, radiographic/fluoroscopic machines, portables, tomography systems, c-arms, chest/heat units, processors and daylight film loaders. 3. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. 4. Ability to use computer systems to manage patient information. 5. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, medical and nursing personnel.
