The Histology Supervisor oversees and maintains the histology department and is responsible for supervising the employees within the Histology Department. The Supervisor performs histology laboratory testing for inpatients and outpatients in accordance with established laboratory policies. The Supervisor is responsible for the high complexity portion of histology including immunohistochemistry and special stains. In addition, the Histology Supervisor performs and maintains quality control processes in accordance with policy and participates in Laboratory Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Initiatives. The Histology Supervisor troubleshoots production issues and assists with updating standard operating procedures for the histology laboratory.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
-Supervise employees within the department.
-Assist Manager or Director with hiring employees within the Histology
-Assist with evaluating associates in regards to their annual review
-Responsible for setting up schedules and evaluating workflow of employees within the
Histology department
-Responsible for representing the Histology department at assigned meetings

Work Schedule:

Performs and documents all aspects of routine histology procedures in an efficient and superior manner., that may include:
  • Microtomy
  • Embedding
  • Special stains
  • Routine staining
  • Quality control
  • Performs periodic maintenance and troubleshoots instruments as needed
  • Recycling solvents and formalin
  • Sign out and distribution of slides
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participates in department Performance Improvement and Continuing Education.
  • Troubleshoots issues that arise with production.
  • Ensures all quality control is maintained and is up to standards.
  • Maintains competency and proficiency.
  • Complies with safety and infection control policies.
  • Utilizes time, supplies and other resources wisely.
  • Ensures all department goals (i.e. TAT) and deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Seeks out and preforms additional tasks.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the Laboratory Information System.
  • Demonstrates a professional work ethnic at all times.
  • Promotes laboratory compliance.
  • Supervises and mentors employees in the department.
  • Performs employee competencies/reviews.
  • Assist with compliance of all professional federal, state and Cap requirements
  • Maintains and creates standard operating procedures for the department.
  • Follows all AHC/CSM Policies and procedures outlined in employee source book, general administrative SOP's to include specific department SOP's

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3am-11:30am with flexibility according to workload.
