Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and comprehensive advocacy services to individuals exhibiting a wide variety of issues related to being a victim or survivor of sexual harassment or sexual assault.
  • Conducts assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluates safety and levels of risk and assess the urgency of cases and develops a plan for assistance.
  • Recognize symptoms of emotional distress or social disorganization that require immediate additional professional intervention and refers cases to appropriate professional medical and/or social services staff.
  • Conducts professional level and administrative educational and interactive training workshops/seminars to victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault, community agencies, units and leaders.
  • Ensure victims of sexual assault receive guidance and support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures, and victims understand the processes involved and that data will be collected, reported, and maintained on cases.
  • Refer victims to other community services as required to include hotline services and individual support to victims at the point of service.
  • Maintain applicable education and accreditation requirements, to include membership in professional societies if applicable, as well as legal and regulatory requirements for documentation.
  • Coordinate professional and support services for victims with service support and community organizations and agencies.
  • Maintain applicable SHARP accreditation academic and training standards for professional employees, as well as legal and regulatory requirements for documentation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires off-duty hour support to include a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services to victims.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Position is designated as a Public Trust position and requires a Moderate Background Investigation on a post-appointment basis only.
  • Requires successful completion of a 6-week SHARP training course and completion of all requirements to obtain DoD Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as: Psychology or Sociology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above , to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: provide assistance and liaison to victims of sexual assault and harassment, provide advocacy and educational services to personnel, and coordinate support services with community organizations and agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Sciences.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
