The Clinical Nurse Specialist demonstrates advanced and specialized clinical knowledge and skills to facilitate the provision of patient / family-focused care to promote health and/or well-being improve quality of life; drive practice changes throughout the organization, and ensure use of evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes. This individual provides expertise and support either directly or indirectly by influencing patients/families, nurses/nursing practice, and organization/systems through direct care, leadership, coaching, research, ethical decision making, collaboration, and consultation.

RN-Master's Level Degree

Experience
2 years of RN experience

Must be certified in specialty area deemed eligible for CNS as recognized by State Boards of Nursing. CNS registration with Virginia or North Carolina Board of Nursing required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support required for Intermediate Care and Critical Care

License
Required: Registered Nurse

Preferred: Basic Life Support

Demonstrates the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities to care for the individualized needs of the patient to include physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual and cognitive needs as well as functional abilities including the need for diversified use of such practices.

Incumbents are required to be knowledgeable of the standards of care for stroke patients and meet the annual educational requirements for the Primary Stroke Center, where applicable.
