Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare (CM), Chronic Care Policy Group (CCPG), Division of Technical Payment Policy (DTPP).

As a Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-13, you will implement current policies and design, develop, evaluate, and implement new policies for one or more Medicare program areas such as the Physician Self-referral Law.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a wide range of written documents, such as Physician Self-referral Law advisory opinions, comprehensive briefing and issue papers, regulatory drafts, guidance, issuances, reports to Congress, and other correspondence for varied audiences.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of program policies by gathering, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting background information and data and makes recommendations supported by facts and background information.
  • Establish and maintain contacts and working relationships required to plan and execute projects to meet the needs of the division.
  • Actively engages in critical analysis and discussions of program impacts, including conducting studies and comparisons.
  • Develop, evaluate, interpret and apply Medicare polices as assigned, in accordance with Agency objectives.

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) analyzing financial arrangements for legal and policy issues; (2) making recommendations regarding Medicare policy; and (3) managing projects or services related to Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
