To provide legal support on issues related to the programs and business of ANA, ANCC, ANF, the Institute for Nursing Research and Education, and the American Nurses Service Corporation. Research and analyze legal matters; identify legal risks; assist in representing entities in the Enterprise in litigation and pre-litigation claims; review and draft contracts; and write legal memoranda. Advise staff, committee members, and C/SNAs, as appropriate, on legal issues and strategies to address issues. Provides general counsel and legal services to colleagues in the Office of General Counsel ("OGC"), elected and staff leaders and employees of the ANA Enterprise, including but not limited to ANA, ANCC and ANF, on legal matters, business matters with legal implications, labor and employment, risk management, regulatory and corporate compliance and healthcare, credentialing and related policy. 2. Assists Chief General Counsel and Assistant General Counsels in supporting ANCC with day-to-day legal matters and contracting. Provides backup support to Assistant General Counsels as needed. Provides strategic advice to ANCC program staff and volunteers that ensures compliance with credentialing, antitrust and fair competition, and business laws. 3. Under the general supervision of Assistant General Counsel assists with litigation matters and discovery. Manages document collection and production efforts and legal hold management. Works collaboratively with internal and external IT and risk management professions to ensure compliance with best practices and legal sufficiency of retention and hold practices. Work with outside counsel to gather and share information. Participates in arbitration preparation and assists with arbitration. 4. Provides legal advice on matters of Nursing Practice and Nursing Affairs, including matters related to nursing policy. Supports the Enterprise in its support of nursing related amicus briefs, litigation and policy coalitions. 5. Other duties as assigned, eg, contracts and business transactions, special projects in governance, investigations for Corporate Compliance Program matters, serving on internal committees and workgroups. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education: JD . and license to practice in the District of Columbia or Maryland, or eligibility to obtain license through reciprocity. Related Work Experience: Experience and qualifications: . 3 or more years of experience in the practice of law. 5 years preferred. . Demonstrated ability to perform with a high level of autonomy while managing a large docket under time constraints in a fast-paced environment. . Experience drafting and negotiating contracts. . Experience managing or supervising electronic discovery projects. Skills/Knowledge: . Strong organizational and prioritization skills. . Superior critical and analytical thinking skills. . High level of proficiency in spotting legal issues, analyzing the law (decisional, regulatory, statutory), applying legal analysis to factual circumstances and making appropriate recommendations, taking into account relevant political considerations. . Ability to coordinate and follow through on multiple legal matters concurrently. . Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (including PowerPoint and Excel), case management systems, e-discovery and legal research applications. . Strong interpersonal skills to deal pleasantly and tactfully with a variety of individuals (eg, appointed officials, staff members and outside contacts) under pressure of constraints and interruptions, and to deliver unpopular of difficult advice. . Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation and persuasion skills. . Knowledge of healthcare law, contract law, and non-profit association/corporate law.
