Responsibilities

  • Organizes, directs and manages the regional campus and assigned faculty and staff who operate the education, training, research, and publication program for acquisition personnel.
  • Develops faculty as "thinking partners" with customers and students, continuously improving product and service delivery to provide the right knowledge and skills at the point of need through mission assistance, workshops, classroom offerings and on-line resources.
  • Builds relationships and partnerships with senior leaders from all organizations within their area of responsibility. Elicits customer feedback from Service Acquisition Executives, Program Executives, Program Managers, Buying Command leadership, students and stakeholders to shape the content and delivery of learning assets with the goal of improving the customers' acquisition outcomes.
  • Creates content and coordinates with learning asset and technology divisions, which have central responsibility for development of curriculum, to modify assets and delivery methods as needed.
  • Provides expert advice and support to the President, Vice President, peer Deans and Directors on all matters concerning the DoD-wide acquisition workforce to identify and implement fundamental, reaching measures to effect substantial improvement in the performance of the acquisition system and the acquisition workforce.
  • Partners with the Executive Leadership team to plan and implement goals and initiatives for the overall DAU Strategic Plan, Annual Performance Plan, and DAU products and services to meet the continuing and emerging needs of the defense acquisition workforce in accordance with DoD policies and strategic goals.
  • Establishes objectives to achieve efficient and effective use of available resources by coordinating acquisition education and training programs, and tailoring the content and delivery to support and improve acquisition outcomes for civilian and military personnel in DoD acquisition programs. Prepares, defends, realigns and forecasts budgetary, personnel and scheduling requirements. Also, performs other duties as assigned.

  • Acquisition knowledge and leadership/management: Demonstrated experience in managing and assessing the performance of major defense acquisition systems and projects, including research,development, production and support, workforce management and development.
  • Experience leading change, building coalitions and communicating: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement an organizational vision that integrates enterprise and business unit missions, goals,priorities and values. Experience encompasses: Building partnerships with senior leaders from all organizations within their area of responsibility, building a shared vision, strategic planning, elements of quality management, encouragement of creative thinking and innovation, influencing others,expressing facts and ideas in a convincing manner, and negotiating with individuals and groups internally and externally.
  • Experience leading people: Design and implementation of strategies and objectives that maximize employee potential, foster continuous learning, and achieve high ethical standards. Competency in conflict management, leading and leveraging diversity, developing others and team building.
  • Experience accomplishing mission and producing results: In addition to visioning, strategic planning, goal setting and problem solving, emphasis on accountability and continuous improvement. Ability to make timely and effective decisions that produce accomplish mission, and achieve established performance plan tasks and results.
  • Demonstrated resource management and business acumen: Lead and manage to acquire and administer human, financial, material and information resources in a manner that achieves excellence,accomplishes mission and instills public trust.     • You will be required to become a member of the Acquisition Corps. DoD instruction 5000.58R specifies qualification standards for Corps membership (waiver of some of these standards is possible in the limited circumstances described in the instruction).
    • You will be required to join the DAU Faculty Plan as established by Title 10 of the US Code. This position is in the excepted service (non-career). Candidates currently in the competitive service will be required to sign a statement indicating that they are leaving the competitive services voluntarily to accept an appointment in the excepted service.
    • Initial appointment is made for a period of four years, conditional upon satisfactory completion of a DAU probationary period of one year. Every year, as part of an annual review, consideration is given to extending the appointment; thus service at DAU can be extended indefinitely.
    • If selected for this position, you MUST be able to begin work within 90 days of acceptance
    • Initial Probationary Period: You will be required to serve an initial probationary period of 2 year if one has not already been completed.
