Summary

The Engineering & Technology Directorate, Electrical Engineering Division, Flight Data Systems and Radiation Effects Branch (Code 561), is seeking an individual to serve as a Center-wide technical expert in leading and managing efforts that support the design and development of high-reliability flight data systems that meet the requirements of flight projects of national and international impact.

Responsibilities

  • The duties described below are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
  • You will serve as a subject-matter expert (SME) that demonstrates technical leadership in the development of critical electronics hardware for flight data systems for spacecraft, instruments, and payloads.
  • Your expertise will span design, verification, and analysis that covers digital and analog electronics and knowledge of key component technologies such as processors or programmable logic devices such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA).
  • As an SME, your responsibilities will also include exploring and reporting on new design or technology developments that are key to the organization and that help guide insertion efforts.
  • You will serve as an SME on design review panels or unusual and complex troubleshooting efforts, conduct knowledge sharing, and improve the availability and widespread use of design resources (such as automated design tools).
  • You will manage and perform design activities, as assigned, to continually maintain expertise in the state-of-the-art. Assignments span programs covering both flight project and technology development efforts.
  • You will manage interdisciplinary teams in the aforementioned efforts and provide guidance to technical managers in meeting the requirements of these programs.
  • You will serve as task manager in managing contractors who perform key support activities.
  • You will submit proposals to secure technology development funding from programs such as Internal Research and Development (IRADs), manage budgets and schedules, and report outcomes in the execution of such development efforts.
  • You will serve as an SME consultant on a broad range of subjects, including initiatives, and proposals. Such consultation is provided to all levels of management at the Center.
  • You will establish liaisons with program or technology managers and work closely with their representatives to ensure that technical needs are met. You will conduct trade studies, research, and/or analysis to establish and support findings.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade.

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Specialized experience includes performing analyzing and verifying digital and analog electronics; designing tools and test and verification environments; and assisting in the development of aerospace electronics hardware or eventual use in or with flight data systems.

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Ceramics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science*, Earth and Planetary Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics (Pure or Applied), Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Meteorology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Oceanography, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Space Science, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering or other appropriate physical science or engineering field. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position. *Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
