Responsibilities

As a Librarian, you will:

  • Complete tasks associated with assigned subscriptions, including acquisitions workflow, collection development, responding to reference requests, updating web content, and delivering user training.
  • Perform contracting officer representative (COR) for a portfolio of contracts for financial data and other subscriptions.
  • Assess the information needs of user groups to plan for acquisitions. Meet with content providers/vendor to determine the optimal level of service.
  • Work on group projects, communicating information to team members and engaging in problem solving.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 60 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:

Basic Requirements:

1. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;

-OR-

2. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

-AND-

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service. To qualify for the NB-IV level, you must have specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level, NB-III or GS-5. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Examples of specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Assisting with the development of library collections and acquisitions; AND
  • Providing library reference services.

-OR-

Education:

You must have graduate education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Qualifying education includes: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B or J.D., related to the position.

-OR-

Combination of Education and Specialized Experience:

Have a combination of graduate level education from an accredited college or university AND specialized experience (as described above), which is equivalent to the NB-III level in the Federal Service. This experience and education together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. When an applicant has less than one year of specialized experience as described in the announcement, he or she may combine successfully completed graduate-level education with experience to meet the total qualification requirements. One year of full time graduate education is considered to be number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of fully-time study. If the number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. The percentage of specialized work experience and the percentage of graduate study must total at least 100%.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

• Salary range includes 20% geographical pay.
