Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of Foreign Operations (OF); Arlington, VA.
The incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Responsible for the administrative oversight and tracking of all diplomatic passports for DEA employees in overseas positions and their dependents diplomatic passports.
  • The application for entry visas for DEA required to have a current official passport and who require assistance in obtaining an entry visa in order to travel to a foreign country.
  • Independently researches and resolves problems of a common or immediate nature.
  • Considers primary and secondary information and devises unique methods to resolve issues of missing or conflicting documentation.
  • Serves as primary source of information on a specific subject matter area within the organization, and is responsible for providing responses to requests from various sources including other agencies, Congressional offices, and the private sector.

Qualifications

GS-7: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 Federal grade level performing duties such developing, examining, investigating, adjudicating, or authorizing claims arising under the nationality laws of the United States; responding to general questions pertaining to the Passport and Visa Program; and conducting routine research.
OR
Have one full year of graduate level education (Major study - law or other fields related to the position to be filled).
OR
Superior academic achievement (in the upper third of your graduating class; received a 3.0 or 3.5, or higher out of a possible 4.0; or a member in one of the national scholastic honor societies). (Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirement of the requirement of this position.)
OR
Have a combination of both education and experience.

GS-9: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Federal grade level performing duties such as developing, examining, investigating, adjudicating, or authorizing claims arising under the nationality laws of the United States; overseeing foreign travel, passport requirements for all Permanent Change of Station (PCS) and Temporary Duty (TDY) travel, entry visas justification, and application requirements are upheld and maintained.
OR
Have a Master's or equivalent degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.B. or J.D., if related (Major study -- law or other fields related to the position to be filled). Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
Have a combination of both education and experience.

Education

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
