Responsibilities

The United States Secret Service, Office of the Chief Information Officer, is looking for talented individuals to supervise information technology (IT) specialists based both in nationwide field offices and in the Washington, DC headquarters region. Some of the duties that you will be involved in are collaborating with other Supervisory IT Program Managers on the formulation of short and long range plans, goals and objectives; preparing and reviewing comprehensive recommendations regarding the development and/or modification of program policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency; conducting continuing evaluations of the effectiveness and adequacy of branch operations, work methods and techniques; identifying issues, initiating and coordinating research and preparing/reviewing position papers and other materials to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines and best practices; developing innovative solutions to identify process and work limitations; proposing and advising senior level officials regarding applicable solutions to solve complicated systemic problems and to improve customer support; coordinating with all 24x7 operation centers within the Secret Service to ensure IT customer support requests and service expectations are clearly understood, documented and measured; planning conducting and providing technical and administrative direction for various phases of significant projects; managing and directing the work efforts of administrative and technical staff; and consistently evaluating individual and team performance to provide immediate and timely feedback for successful outcomes.

NOTE: The person selected for this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period for supervisors/managers.

Qualifications

You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

Specialized experience is defined as:
  • GS-14: performing duties such as developing technical solutions and integrating them within an IT customer support/service center environment; performing a wide variety of team lead/senior specialist or supervisory functions such as delegating assignments, advising and mentoring employees; planning, implementing, and overall project management for customer solutions/support initiatives and objectives; providing guidance and recommendations in support of technology solutions; and providing expert advice for requirement analysis, long/short range planning, and other studies of information technology (IT) issues.

AND

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) is defined as:
  • Attention to Detail - Provides leadership and guidance on the maintenance, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of IT systems to meet customer performance requirements.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

    The Office of Chief Information Officer (CIO), is responsible for providing advice and assistance to senior managers on IT acquisition and management; developing, maintaining, and facilitating implementation of a sound and integrated IT architecture; and promoting effective and efficient design and operation of all major CIO processes for the agency, including improvements to work processes.

    **Student Loan repayments, recruitment bonuses and relocation bonuses may be available**

    Positions may be eligible to receive Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO) added to base pay at a rate between 10-25%, based on management approval.
