Summary

NOTE: This vacancy announcement will be open from July 10, 2019 to January 10, 2020. These positions are located in the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Group, Facilities Management Division of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, modifies, repairs, inspects, and maintains system specific and stand-alone controls; constructs, troubleshoots, and tests a wide variety of new and old components of secondary electrical distribution systems and equipment.
  • Works from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, and continuity of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
  • Recommends electrical work and projects that most effectively maintain the value and extend the life cycle of Kennedy Center facilities.
  • Maintains logs and records of equipment and system conditions in order to identify trends that reveal operating or energy usage inefficiencies.
  • Identifies electrical and lighting systems that may provide energy savings through upgrading, retrofitting, replacement, or elimination.
  • Works with engineers, specialists, and consultants to build or modify systems or equipment based solely on a statement of work describing no more than desired performance.
  • Estimates costs of work, researches and specifies appropriate supplies, materials, and equipment for purchase toward completion of goals and assignments.
  • Ensures performance requirements are satisfied for assigned projects and that they are done in a timely manner, and to a high standard of safety.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C .

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Efforts and Working Conditions:
Incumbent must be in good physical condition. The incumbent will climb ladders and must be able to climb stair towers of greater than 100 feet. Accessing work sites often requires walking more than three miles throughout the day and stepping over objects. Work of this position involves pushing, pulling, or carrying of objects of varying sizes and shapes, weighing up to 75 pounds.

Incumbent works in confined areas such as attics, near ceilings, in utility corridors, etc. Incumbent will work from various heights on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding. Duties are performed both inside and outside in weather conditions varying from hot, humid summer heat to below freezing winter temperatures.

Work Schedule:

This position requires a fixed work schedule; flexible work schedules will not be authorized.

This vacancy is open to fill multiple positions covering the following shifts:

1 st Shift: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
2 nd Shift: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Monday - Friday. Weekend and holiday work on an overtime basis as needed but not regular and reoccurring.


This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
