About the Position: This Lead Public Safety Dispatcher position is located at the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Police/Provost Marshal Division, located at Fort Myer, VA. Responsibilities

  • Serves as Work Leader for Public Safety Dispatchers.
  • Distribute and balance workload among employees, track day-to-day work progress making workload changes as needed.
  • Instruct/train employees in specific tasks and techniques based on established policies and procedures.
  • Provide police, fire, and emergency medical dispatching services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls.
  • Dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment.
  • Identify nature of emergency and level of response.
  • Maintain accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using emergency medical dispatch system.
  • Receive 911 calls and initiates an immediate, appropriate emergency response and provides caller with life support information.
  • Utilize knowledge of fire suppression systems, fire alarm detection equipment and Integrated and Commercial Instruction Detection Alarm Systems to dispatch emergency equipment and personnel.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the following certifications within six months of employment: (1) DoD Telecommunicator I and II and (2) DoD HAZMAT Materials Awareness Certification.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain certification within six months of employment for National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
  • This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain the following certifications within six months of employment: (1) Emergency Fire Dispatcher, (2) Emergency Police Dispatcher, and (3) Basic Telecommunications.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform.
  • This position requires the employee to work shift work. This entails working an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has been determined to be Mission Essential. Employee is required to work regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON), or installation closure.
  • This position requires the employee to have and be able to maintain a valid state driver?s license.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain the following certifications within six months of employment: (1) American Heart Associations Healthcare Provider for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Emergency Medical Dispatch System.
  • The position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes answer emergency 911 calls and dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; perform intervention with distraught emergency callers during high risk situations until appropriate emergency response units arrive on the scene; monitor Closed Circuit Television (CCTV); and assess incoming information in fire, medical and other emergency situations and quickly determine the proper course of action. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06)

Education
