Job Details
The Department of Literature and Languages at Marymount University in Arlington, VA, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in new media writing beginning in Fall 2020. We seek a practicing teacher, writer, and scholar of wide-ranging expertise specializing in multimodal digital writing, including one or more of the following: electronic literature, interactive storytelling, writing for new media and performance, composition pedagogy, digital rhetorics, public humanities. The selected candidate will help support a new program in Digital Writing and Narrative Design, to include curriculum development.
In addition to upper-division and graduate courses in their specializations, faculty teach introductory courses within our liberal arts core and first-year writing classes. The department values interdisciplinary teaching; interest in mentoring and supporting students of color, international students, transfer students, and first-generation students; and innovative approaches to pedagogy.
Candidates must be committed to working with a diverse, metropolitan student body; developing new courses and strengthening the arts and humanities on campus; promoting departmental activities; and performing University service responsibilities.
The new hire will enjoy a collegial environment as well as a 3/3 teaching load, support for research, membership in the Washington Research Library Consortium, and close proximity to Washington, DC.
In addition to upper-division and graduate courses in the specialization, the appointee will teach courses within the core and writing courses, including first-year composition.
Research toward publication in the area of expertise.
Promoting departmental activities; sponsoring student groups; participating in departmental assessment and faculty governance.
