As the Government Affairs Representative I, you maintain effective working relationships with governmental agencies and organizations that have direct impact on the Airports Authority.

Government Affairs Representative I

Serves in the Office of Communications and Government Affairs at the Headquarters Office.

This is a developmental level position and may lead to the next level of the Government Affairs Representative career ladder.

After 12 months of successful performance and demonstrable ability to independently identify, develop, recommend and implement government affairs strategies and outreach efforts, a one grade increase may be awarded non-competitively and the incumbent remains on this job description (SGOV01).

After a total of 24 months of successful performance, and demonstrable ability to independently organize and lead periodic briefing meetings with Federal, state/local officials and Congressional staff, the full performance level of work (SGOVAFF20) is intended.

Assists Government Affairs staff to develop and apply government relations strategies to ensure that the Airports Authority's key interest are understood, supported, and funded. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in representing the interests of the Airports Authority at meetings, conferences, and hearings.

Maintains regular communications with officials to exchange routine and non-routine information and develops contacts that will serve the Airports Authority's key interests.

May assist in organizing and participating in periodic meetings with Federal, state, and local government officials and Congressional staff to explain the Airports Authority's status, actions and initiatives.

Coordinates efforts with the Office's Community Relations, Media Relations, and Employee Communications Departments.

Collects information and assists in the research and monitoring of legislative proposals, regulations, and other issues to assess the impact on the Airports.

Assists in identifying and recommending strategies to present the Airports Authority's position on legislative initiatives.

Assists in developing briefing papers to present to legislators and key staff and respond to formal and informal requests for information from officials, the private sector, and the public.

May attend legislative sessions to personally communicate the Airports Authority's position; assists in preparing other Airports Authority officials to testify.

Assists in researching issues and preparing official responses to inquiries from Congress and Federal agencies; reviews responses prepared by other Airports Authority offices.

Assists in coordinating an annual Airports Authority outreach program for government officials.

May arrange and coordinate other special events including meetings, tours for officials and presentations related to the Airports Authority operations and interests.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs.

Knowledge of Federal, state/regional/local governmental organization/ operations and legislative processes and ability to apply it to work in a government relations program.

Ability to research position papers and draft response statements.

Ability to speak and write effectively, with emphasis on persuasive techniques.

Ability to handle sensitive information and situations with utmost discretion.

Ability to analyze data and information and make recommendations.

Ability to use a computer and modern office suite software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in Government, Government Relations, Public Affairs, Public Relations, or Communications.

Experience in researching and monitoring legislative proposals, regulations or other issues/actions of federal government bodies.

Experience in researching issues and helping to prepare official responses to inquiries from Congress and various federal agencies.

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's Degree in any field.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A state driver's license in good standing.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

Is subject to heavy workloads during peak periods.

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quality, quantity, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
