Responsibilities

  • Regularly lifts equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Moderate physical effort is required in reaching, bending turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
  • Drives all vehicles including up to 53-foot tandem axle semi-tractor trailers, 55 passenger motor coaches, 28-foot box trucks, military 8-15 passenger vans, and 5 passenger staff cars.
  • May serve as dispatcher. Dispatcher duties include, but are not limited to, receiving and processing requests for vehicles and drivers, and assigning drivers to ensure best use of manpower and mission accomplishment.
  • Assists loading and unloading of vehicles.
  • Performs first user maintenance: keeping tires inflated, adding coolant fuel and oil, changing tires, keeping vehicle clean, inspecting for loose connections, leaks, etc.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties pertinent to operation of the Motor Pool such as washing vehicles, cleaning and maintaining building, etc.
  • Transports GSA leased/owned vehicles to and from contracted maintenance shop in the local area.
  • Assists set-up crew with duties such as but are not limited to: setting up main speaker system; running main line cables from staging area to mix position; matting and taping down cables to ensure safety.
  • Assists with additional transportation needs, such as medical emergencies, airport pick-ups, deliveries, and courier tasks.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to work flex time schedule, to include weekends, as required by Field Band mission.
  • The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must posses and maintain a valid Class-A Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) with P (Passenger) endorsement. CDL and DOT medical card must be kept on file. Must be able to pass the government Defensive Driving Course (DDC) and update as required.
  • Must present current traffic record from MVA (printed within the last 30 days) and have no suspensions and no points. Traffic record review will be required once per quarter.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision.

Ability to operate 53 foot semi-tractor trailers, 55-passenger motor coaches, 28 foot box trucks, 15-passenger vans, and 5-passenger staff cars; performing first user maintenance (inflating tires, adding coolant, stocking vehicles with safety equipment, cleaning vehicles, inspecting for leaks and loose connections, etc.); inspecting repair work; assisting crew with setting up equipment (such as electrical/audio connections); completing risk assessment reports; assisting with training other drivers; and loading vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical effort is required to operate the larger vehicles and to operate various additional controls. Physical effort is required when loading and unloading vehicles, maneuvering large wheeled cases weighing up to 250 pounds, sometimes on grades, stairs and on varying surfaces, such as pavement, sand, gravel and grass. Regularly lifts equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Moderate physical effort is required in reaching, bending turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
  • The position requires working inside and working outside in all types of weather. Drives in all types of traffic, weather and road conditions and is thus exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or loading/unloading vehicles.
