Summary

About the Position: The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), a subordinate research laboratory under the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, is the lead medical biological defense research laboratory for the DOD Chemical Biological Defense Program.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foot patrol of the perimeter and interior of facility structures.
  • Conduct vehicle searches/inspections (to include, cargo areas, engine compartments and under carriages), in accordance with standing operating procedures.
  • Protect personnel, visitors, critical components, and systems of a research facility from all threats.

  • This position will require shift work and overtime. Tours of duty may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent will report for duty during designated inclement weather conditions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position will require CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • This position requires you to complete regularly scheduled security guard training.

USAMRIID is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP). The DK-02 payband is equivalent to the GS-05 step 1 to GS-08 step 10 level. In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this payband equivalent, will not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the payband will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Experience working with other organizations and entities to quickly resolve security concerns; (2) Experience interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries concerning access to a restricted facility; AND (3) Experience identifying and preventing unauthorized contraband and access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (DK-01/GS-04).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
