Summary

This position is located in the Office of Field Operations, Firearms Operations Division, Crime Gun Intelligence Center in Washington, D.C.

Performs work in the collection, analysis, evaluation, interpretation, and dissemination of information on conditions, trends, and intelligence that directly/indirectly affects criminal investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of a Senior Intelligence Research Specialist of Special Agent, clarifies the nature of investigative intelligence indicators, provides investigative leads, requests data to substantiate or verify information, suggests possible new avenues of criminal investigations, and researches information for use in responding to collateral request.
  • Performs complex analyses of raw primary and secondary data queried from various sources, i.e. internal and external automated database systems, intelligence reports and case files.
  • Provides detailed analytical reports of the activities of crime groups.
  • Conducts validation of sources and evaluates information derived from cooperating witnesses, assets and informants and prepares production reviews of asset/informant/cooperating witness validation efforts.
  • Access local and national intelligence information databases to respond to and validate requests for information.
  • Develops and maintains computerized intelligence information databases to generate statistical and relational reports.
  • Makes recommendations for modifications and improvements to existing systems and establishes new collection techniques for unique investigations.
  • Performs liaison and coordination functions with counterparts and personnel throughout the intelligence and law enforcement communities.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

MOBILITY PLAN : New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. Specialized experience at this level includes: collecting, analyzing and disseminating intelligence information; using a variety of intelligence-gathering methods including link analyses, visual investigative analyses, crime mapping, and telephone toll record analyses to support criminal investigative operations; experience extracting, compiling and analyzing factual information for criminal investigators; performing liaison and coordination functions with counterparts in other intelligence organizations; maintaining and modifying intelligence databases to generate statistical reports; drafting multiple, complex intelligence reports that contain original analyses, conclusions and recommendations.

This position is processed under a Direct Hire authority; therefore, veteran's preference and Category Rating procedures do not apply.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify with the following education and/or experience: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in a field of study related to this position such as social sciences, business and public administration, criminal justice, behavioral sciences and sociology or other field of study that provides them with the knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position OR combination of education and experience listed above.
