Under direct supervision of the global head of litigation, the Senior Litigation Paralegal will work closely with senior litigation counsel and other attorneys, business partners, various staff of the global legal department, internal IT and Compliance teams. Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following: How you will do it Serve as the paralegal managing commercial litigation matters in North America with primary responsibility for initial matter intake, ensuring compliance with matter budget requirements, processing invoices, tracking and updating progression of matters, and other matter tasks. Respond to third-party subpoenas, including conducting communications with issuing party and/or its counsel, communicating with internal stakeholders to coordinate collections, review of documents (including responsiveness determinations), and production of documents. Serve as subject matter expert and central point of contact for all divisions within Johnson Controls relating to eDiscovery from overseeing legal holds, managing evidence collections and data processing projects. Manage document review and production costs and serve as a liaison between in-house and outside counsel, internal IT, national eDiscovery counsel and outside vendors to ensure a successful workflow during eDiscovery. Provide internal training/education and support on eDiscovery tools and workflows. Assist in the management and oversight of preferred outside counsel by providing support in tracking performance metrics and developing reports. Support litigation team by managing costs through budgets and capped fees arrangements. Coordination, management and oversight of the production of various reports to business leadership providing updates on material litigation matters and other Sarbanes-Oxley reportable liabilities. Coordinate and oversee the settlement authority process and documentation of approvals for litigation matters. Identify enhancements to support the continuous improvement of litigation tools and processes with an emphasis on quality, efficiency, cost savings and client satisfaction. Prepare various and/or ad hoc reports as requested and perform various other duties as assigned. What we look for At least 7 years of experience as a certified paralegal or a bachelor's degree, plus at least 6 years' paralegal experience in litigation. Minimum 3 years of substantive experience in eDiscovery, including working knowledge of current eDiscovery practices (eg, relevant eDiscovery technology) to proactively reduce expenses and increase efficiency in legal matters. In-depth litigation experience with excellent working knowledge of litigation procedures, preferably in the area of complex commercial litigation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products. Significant experience working with electronic billing and matter management programs and systems. Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced and evolving global organization and to adapt to changes in circumstances and to alter objectives accordingly. Demonstrate problem-solving skills to assist the legal teams globally with continued development of efficient and cost-effective processes, in-house solutions and related documentation. Detail-oriented, motivated and organized with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure deadlines are met. Proactive with proven experience in effectively managing competing demands and multiple projects. Effective oral and written communication skills with leadership, the business and peers.
