Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and training in one of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, electronic. A minimum of four (4) years responsible experience in one of these disciplines, including at least two (2) years training and technica l work experience in a relevant applied engineering area which demonstrates a high degree of proficiency in performing maintenance and maintenance inspections on escalators and/or elevators. Applicant must be qualified in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of escalator and/or elevator support equipment. Applicant must be certified by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) through ANSI/ASME OEI- 1 qualification test.

Or, an equivalent combination of post-high school education and more than six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in one of following disciples: mechanical, electrical , electronic. Must be qualified in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of and/or elevator support equipment. Certification by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) through ANSI/ASME OEI- 1 qualification test. Incumbent must also demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in performing maintenance and maintenance inspections on escalator and/or elevators.

License:

Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia motor vehicle operator's permit issued from the jurisdiction of residence, or the ability to acquire one on a timely basis.

Medical Group:

Ability to complete satisfactorily the medical examination for this job.

Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks including frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally to 75 pounds. Ability to frequently climb stairs and ladders . Ability to bend, squat, and reach in small areas for extended periods of time. Ability to distinguish basic colors for component, wiring, and safety identification.

Job Summary/Duties :

This is highly skilled and technical maintenance coordination work involving auditing of preventive and corrective maintenance on escalators and elevators in support of the entire Metrorail system. Employee performs inspections; conducts investigations; responds to escalator and elevator emergencies, accidents/incidents, and equipment outages; and produces written audits and/or reports to document findings and recommendations for corrective actions. Employee audits and monitors work performed by WMATA and contractor personnel. Employee monitors adherence to applicable Federal, state, and local codes. Employee has comprehensive working knowledge of codes, escalator and elevator systems, and troubleshooting and maintenance procedures. Employee has considerable latitude for independent judgment within established guidelines.

Audits escalator/elevator maintenance and repair requirements and mechanics who are performing the work. Provides technical assistance to ELES for troubleshooting and repairing escalators and elevators.

Audits and monitors contractors on escalator and elevator replacement and rehabilitation projects to ensure that work is done in accordance with specifications and appropriate codes. Audits activities of in-house and contractor personnel.

Performs independent audits of escalators and elevators to assure that all scheduled and required inspections are conducted in accordance with established codes.

Performs inspections on maintenance and repair work and assesses workmanship, completeness, and compliance with applicable Federal, state, and local codes; engineering orders; drawing specifications: procedures and standard maintenance practices.

Reviews specifications, drawings, schematics, and contracts for accuracy and completeness.

Reviews service tickets and other maintenance-related documents as part of maintenance audit process.

Conducts investigations and responds to escalator and elevator emergencies, accidents/inc idents, and equipment outages. Produces written reports to document findings and recommendations for corrective actions.

Maintains effective contact with Federal, state and local code enforcement agencies.

Performs related duties as required.
