Job Announcement

Performs a more advanced level of professional real estate appraisal work to determine the value of all classes of non-residential properties. Non-residential classes include rental apartments, industrial property, retail, office building, hotels, condominium, office/industrial buildings, vacant land zoned for non-residential uses, service stations, fast food restaurants, nursing homes, day care centers, and other properties as directed. Defends assessments in the administrative appeal process, at the Board of Equalization level and in Circuit Court. Meets with taxpayers, property tax representatives and attorneys. Prepares special reports and analysis of economic data. Assists in the training of new staff. Assists the Supervising Real Estate Appraiser by providing documented support for trends in real estate market activity to assist in ongoing revenue forecasting. Assists the Supervising Real Estate Appraiser in the quality review of work completed by Real Estate Appraiser II's. Assists the Supervising Real Estate Appraiser with establishing capitalization rates for assigned commercial property. Assists the Supervising Real Estate Appraiser by reviewing breakdowns and approved rezoning applications for commercial property. Leads major appraisal projects.

Note: Salary offer will be commensurate with related work experience, licenses and/or designations and will not exceed the mid-point of the advertised salary range. Please review our generous retirement benefit package as we do not participate in the VRS retirement system.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus five years of increasingly responsible experience in the appraisal of real property for tax assessment purposes.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified General Appraisal License, or the CAE Designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers or a MAI from the Appraisal Institute. Experience in mass appraisal for real estate assessments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Makes field inspections and measures real property improvements. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
