Description

The purpose of this position is to manage systems and staff toward achievement of the strategic and budgetary objectives of ASHA Professional Development (APD). The incumbent works with the Director to develop and monitor progress toward the unit’s budgetary and program development goals. The incumbent works with subject-matter experts to create continuing education programs in a range of media, focusing on Web-delivered programs. The incumbent is responsible for the operations of the Learning Management System (LMS) and supervises the staff who work directly with the LMS. The incumbent works to develop relationships with organizational customers and ensures that contracts with organizational customers are implemented successfully.

Responsibilities

  • With the Director of APD, develops strategy and annual work plans and budgets for APD, and monitors progress toward their achievement.
  • Works with subject-matter experts and staff content coordinators to develop continuing education programs delivered in a variety of formats and incorporating a range of media.
  • Develops and manages systems and processes to maximize the utility of the LMS for ASHA and for individual members/customers
  • Supervises staff who implement these systems and processes
  • Manages large-scale organizational customers

Qualifications

Knowledge typically acquired through:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, systems analysis and design, or related field
  • Experience working as an administrator with one or more learning management systems or other complex databases
  • Experience managing budgets with both revenue and expense
  • Experience managing projects involving multiple contributors
  • Experience leading project teams or formal coaching experience
  • Experience negotiating successful resolutions to problems involving customer service, vendor relations, or issues concerning project scopes, timelines, and budgets
  • Experience developing and managing educational programs, preferably continuing professional education programs
  • Experience in developing educational programs for Web delivery

Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and use large databases
  • Demonstrated ability to develop realistic project plans and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple contributors, time-certain delivery dates, and fixed budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze work processes with attention to opportunities for process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with subject-matter experts in a range of fields to develop continuing professional education programs
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt content to different delivery media, including computer-mediated and Web-based
  • Intermediate to advanced skill using Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint)

  • Ability to coach staff, including helping them set appropriate goals and providing feedback
  • Ability to resolve problems with attention to the needs of all stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
