The Welcome Center Assessor is responsible for ensuring the consistency and fidelity of all K-12 English Learner initial testing for possible student placement in the English Learner (EL) Program, and all other assessments administered by the Welcome Center. The Assessor provides training to Welcome Center and EL staff on the state-approved English learner screening tool as well as any additional assessments administered by the Welcome Center. Additionally, the Assessor maintains the testing database and processes all testing paperwork. The Welcome Center Assessor works with a variety of stakeholders to communicate proper EL and course placement.

Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
• Cooperates with administrators and staff to facilitate the EL screening process, including remaining abreast of federal and state guidelines pertaining to EL assessment, and administering all initial EL language assessment components to students in grades K-12 who may qualify for the English Learner Program.
• Administers all additional Welcome Center assessments and cooperate with administrators and staff to develop and communicate assessment protocols and monitor/evaluate assessments.
• Trains Welcome Center Screeners to administer the initial EL language assessment and any additional assessments administered by the Welcome Center.
• Provides leadership for the Welcome Center Assessment Team, to include fostering a collaborative culture, leading Screener PLCs, developing lessons for Welcome Center Screeners related to assessment protocols and inter-rater reliability, and assisting with professional development on EL Screening & Identification for LCPS community.
• Represents the Welcome Center Assessment Team at Welcome Center and EL Program Meetings.
• Serves as liaison between student, school, home, and the Welcome Center on assessment matters.
• Collaborates with EL teachers, to include attending EL Program CLTs and PLCs.
• Ensures proper completion of all Welcome Center assessment paperwork and preparation of all EL student folders for teachers and the EL department, including all documents for state reports.
• Maintains the ELL Program Student Records Application and input EL coding and data, as appropriate, into the student information system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor• s Degree in Education, Applied Linguistics, or related educational field from an accredited university or college
• Three years of experience in assessment administration, or working with English Learners
• Experience in a K-12 EL classroom, or support of educators teaching in K• 12 EL classrooms preferred
• Substantive organizational skills and the ability to effectively implement the required state and district assessments
• Proficient working with the Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and data record keeping for LEP students
• Excellent public relations and telephone skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment, tact, and courtesy
• Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and coordinate the work of others
• Ability to follow complex oral and written directions and work independently
• Bilingual language ability preferred

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for prolonged periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend and may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds by themselves or with assistance.
