Responsibilities

  • You will determine which tools and equipment to use when overhauling, modifying, repairing, and replacing machinery and equipment.
  • You will complete bench disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of mechanical components.
  • You will use shop mathematics to lay out work and verify dimensions.
  • You will check dimensions at different stages of machining using precision measurements (e.g., height gages, depth gages, calipers, verniers, dial indicators).

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.


Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MACHINIST WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing duties such as: operate one or more conventional machines; make machine set ups and independently resolve machining problems during the actual machining process; select proper cutting tools according to the type of metal being machined and correct machine feeds and speeds necessary to perform the required operation; receive work from the supervisor or higher grade worker in the form of work orders accompanied by sketches or blueprints and instructions for the machine to be used and the processes to be performed.

This position may be required to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Physical Effort:
Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds is required. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for short periods. Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending, & reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions & by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders & scaffolds in order to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required.

Working Conditions:
Some work is performed outside & may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. A portion of work performed on rooftops, under buildings, & confined spaces. Subject to high noise levels requiring ear protection. Works in hot/cold environments, poorly ventilated/light areas; exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease & oil. Possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock & eye hazards.
