Position Available: Associate Policy Director, Education ChoiceCategory: Full-time, salaried, at-will employeeLocation: Flexible/Remote Job Summary:The Associate Policy Director (APD) serves as a member of the Education Choice Policy Division and contributes to ExcelinEd's work on education savings accounts, vouchers, and tax-credit scholarship policy. This is a role for candidates with a vision for the future of education that empowers families with options, who is willing to dig into the details of state policy, and provide creative and customized solutions for each state's unique circumstances. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Operates with little or no supervision on specific projects related to the education choice reform agenda.Coordinates with the Education Choice Division Director to assist state leaders as they shape, advance, adopt, and implement education choice policies. In this capacity, the APD:Provides expert testimony to legislative and executive committees and serves on panels at education conferences, workshops and convenings.Drafts model policies and conducts comprehensive reviews of existing state laws and policies.Assists with policy implementation in states to establish or accelerate the reform agenda, including identifying barriers to implementation, and conducting implementation workshops.Drafts blogs, talking points, briefings, summaries, and presentations for internal and external purposes.Authors and manages contracted research projects.Assists with building the agenda for the annual National Summit on Education Reform, state policy convenings, and policymaker field trips.Responds to email questions and comments related to policy from policymakers, aides, and the public.Travels on behalf of the organization and serves as a representative at events.Assists the Communications Team by supplying facts and writing and editing communications pieces for policy information and accuracy.Assists the Development team in grant writing and reporting.Prepares briefing materials for the organization's Senior Team and Board of Directors. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Strong writing and communication skillsAbility to speak publicly, often before policymakers and executivesStrong organizational and teamwork skillsExpertise in the drafting or implementation of school choice policiesGeneral understanding of the intersection of politics, policy, and the legislative process Requirements:The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with at least three to five years of experience working in K-12 education policy at a state executive or legislative level or with a state or national policy organization. A background in Social Science, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, or an associated subject is desirable.
