Job Summary:

Westat is seeking a Senior Survey Statistician to join our internationally respected, highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Many on our team are authors of cutting-edge research papers in survey statistics and methodology and are leaders in professional associations such as the ASA, AAPOR and ISI.  The position is responsible for overseeing staff who develop sample designs, sampling frames, imputation methods, weighting schemes and variance estimation methods for a wide variety of studies; developing innovative approaches to combine survey and non-survey data; mentoring junior staff; and collaborating with other practice areas in project development

 

Job Responsibilities:

· Apply knowledge of design-based and model-based statistical principles and methods in innovative and creative ways.

· Develop sample designs in both standard and non-standard settings, including non-probability samples; oversee construction of appropriate sample frames and selection of samples.

· Develop weighting, nonresponse adjustment and imputation strategies; create and implement methods for estimation of sampling and non-sampling errors as appropriate; develop suitable analytic methods.

· Work at the interface between survey statistics and other areas of statistics, including combining multiple survey and non-survey data sources to answer complex analytic questions.

· Ensure effective program and project quality review processes.

 

Basic Qualifications:

· A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Statistics or related field with course work in survey statistics, or a Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field plus equivalent work experience is survey statistics.

· Candidates with a Master's must have at least 20 years of experience related to survey statistics.

· Candidates with a Ph.D. must have at least 15 years of experience related to survey statistics.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Ability to collaborate with experts in other areas of statistics and with non-statisticians as part of interdisciplinary research teams to create innovative statistical solutions to address analytic and research goals at the project design and implementation stages.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate with non-statisticians to clarify objectives and ensure the project plan will efficiently and effectively meet them.

· A record of publications and conference presentations.

· Ability to mentor, guide, educate and grow staff.

 

Qualified candidates must have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  Candidates will benefit from knowing R, SAS, or other statistical software, although candidates are not required to do programming.
