The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts ("The Kennedy Center"), which opened on September 8, 1971, is located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Job Description:

As the nation's cultural center, the Kennedy Center retains its commitment to educating and enlightening children and adults by offering arts learning experiences that are accessible to a broad community. Through more than 25 educational programs, quality arts experiences are provided for students, teachers, families, and the general public in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, the local region, and throughout the United States.

The Assistant, Education Operations provides support to school personnel registering for performances and workshops. In addition, they will tend to administrative responsibilities regarding registration data and invoicing. They will work with the Coordinator and Manager to provide day-of welcoming, organizing, and problem solving. They will assist on-site with registration, customer service, and logistics at education events/conferences. In addition, this position will support overall Education Operations project implementation, data gathering/analysis, and other administrative supports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

35% Support Education division customer service practices, including checking in school groups, on-site problem solving, greeting and guiding groups, as well as on-site registration support for Education conferences/events as needed.

25% Support registration practices, including invoicing and communicating with school personnel.

15% Support overall Education Operations project implementation.

15% Gather, organize, and informally analyze registration and attendance data for Education school performances and conferences/events.

10% Generally assist Education Operations.

N/A Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner; Adheres to all employer policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate professional management and customer service experience, with an interest in education.
  • Computer literacy including email, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software are required.
  • Proficiency on the following programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and arts ticketing software.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is variable, depends on our programming. Also work space consists of open cubicles without opportunities to control sound.

No travel is required for this position.
