Members of the Infrastructure and Operations Service (I&O) are responsible for providing centralized infrastructure and operations planning, design, performance tracking, and support as well as I&O-specific project management and integration services to support effective and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

If selected for this position at the J Band Level you will:
  • Consult, advise, and support FAA's Cloud Strategist, Systems Engineers, Operations Administrators, Application Developers, Project Managers, Governance Specialists, and Contract Officer Representatives (CORs)
  • Perform as Solutions Architecture services to:
    • Evaluate existing and proposed architecture to find opportunities to reduce time, costs, and resources; and to increase performance, security, and reliability-that is, maximize the performance, uptime, durability, and total cost of ownership of cloud services
    • Integrate solutions with FAA's Cloud Strategy
    • Search for trends in demand for cloud services, and propose changes to accommodate them
    • Design and oversee services that prevent and automatically respond to operational issues and attacks against availability, confidentiality, and integrity
    • Estimate costs and benefits among different cloud solutions; inform decisions about cloud investments
    • Correspond with counterparts at other federal agencies to compare lessons learned and best practices
  • Support Application Architects to:
    • Gather Functional Business Requirements from FAA Information System Owners (ISOs) and inform their decisions
    • Validate requirements before planning solutions
    • Propose, evaluate, and select Cloud Service Offerings and Technical Specifications that meet requirements
    • Establish strategies to migrate systems and applications from FAA facilities to the cloud
    • Design, test, and deploy efficient, secure, scalable applications
    • Verify delivery meets requirements
  • Oversee performance of Cloud Service Providers, Managed Service Contractors, and Program Support Contractors (i.e., Architecture, Cybersecurity); that is, define metrics (AKA Key Performance Indicators or KPIs), put periodic measurements in place, and ensure CORs receive notification when providers do not meet standards
  • Lead Project Teams to execute changes to the enterprise and applications
  • Collaborate with management and counterparts throughout FAA to develop cloud solutions

Train and familiarize federal employees on standard operating procedures, processes, architecture, tools, and Cloud Service Offerings.

If selected for this position at the K Band Level, in addition to the above you will:
  • Lead highly complex and challenging activities with direct responsibility under the minimal direction of a manager or executive
  • Persuade information systems owners to leverage cloud services
  • Act as a technical expert to develop new and innovative concepts, approaches, methodologies, techniques, and policies, or as a senior project manager or team leader for large, challenging work activities
  • Apply experienced expert technical knowledge in cloud architecture and an understanding of new technologies to perform critical tasks requiring the development of new concepts, systems, or innovative approaches

To qualify for this position at the FV-J Band you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience for the J Band may include but not limited to: Experience using Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure Commercial migrating or building at least five applications with at least 1,000 users into a commercial cloud to automate operations, management, oversight, and configuration of cloud services and/or undergo an audit to ensure commercial cloud service offerings comply with cybersecurity standards.

To qualify for this position at the FV-K Band you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J, FG/GS-14 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience for the K Band may include but not limited to: Experience leading a team using Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure Commercial migrating or building at least five applications with at least 1,000 users into a commercial cloud to automate operations, management, oversight, and configuration of cloud services and/or undergo an audit to ensure commercial cloud service offerings comply with cybersecurity standards.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a selective factor for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.
  • Skill in migrating and building at least five applications with 1,000 users into a commercial cloud using Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure.

Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
