Summary

Responsibilities

  • Receives and shelters animals brought to the veterinarian clinic for treatment, temporary care or disposal.
  • Observes animals and notifies supervisor of abnormal appearance.
  • Feeds animals taking care to measure food portions according to feeding instructions.
  • Cleans and disinfects animal feeding utensils and pen areas and maintains stock of cleaning materials and other items used.
  • Mows grass and cleans yard of animal litter, clears drains in runs and empties garbage.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. In accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to includes a National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI).
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Appointment is subject to successful completion and favorable results of fingerprints, health assessment (physical), and Installation Record Checks to determine suitability for this position.
  • Physical Effort: Frequently lift and carry items and animals weighing over seventy (70) pounds. Moderate effort is required to operate power washing and mowing equipment.
  • Working Conditions: Exposed to unpleasant odors and noises, animal bites, scratches and contagious diseases. May be required to wear protective equipment.


Qualifications

1. Be physically able to lift and carry heavy items weighing over seventy (70) pounds.
2. Stand and walk for long periods of time.
3. Be able to follow complex written instructions.
4. Be able to maintain animal care records.

Skills and Knowledge : Ability to recognize obvious changes to the normal appearance and activities of animals. Ability to handle animals and clean work areas.

The pay for this position will be set at step 01 of the grade ($11.81 per hour). Applicants with previous NAF service may be eligible for a higher hourly rate upon verification of prior service and previous rate.

As of 9 April 2019 the salary range for this announcement has been amended from $11.54-$13.51 per hour to now reflect $11.81-$13.82 per hour, due to a recently published new Federal Wage Schedule effective 11 October 2018.
