FHFA regulates and supervises Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks (the Government Sponsored Entities (GSEs)). FHFA's primary mission is to ensure that the GSEs operate in a safe and sound manner and support a stable, liquid, and efficient mortgage market, including sustainable home ownership and affordable housing.

Responsibilities

As an Assistant Inspector General, you will:
  • Develop strategic short-term and long-term goals that support the FHFA-OIG initiatives. Develop and direct the development of policies and procedures.
  • Review, develop, and analyze proposals for evaluations and other reviews of FHFA programs and operations. Provide advice and recommendations to the DIGE on the long range plans and overall direction of such work.
  • Ensure that all evaluations and reviews are carried our efficiently, effectively, and timely to provide FHFA management with advice that will facilitate effective fulfilment of FHFA's goals and objectives.
  • Recommend corrective action concerning problems, abuses and deficiencies.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the EL-15 (GS-15 equivalent) you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the EL/GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience assisting management in the conduct of day-to-day evaluation operations which include planning, executing, and reporting; AND
  • Experience directing and coordinating evaluation assignments among team members, giving consideration to goals, priorities, and major work schedules; AND
  • Experience serving as a technical authority and being responsible for resolving atypical evaluation questions or issues; AND
  • Experience preparing and presenting clear and concise oral and written presentation of findings under tight deadlines to internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the EL-15, you must have been at the EL/GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least 3 months in that appointment.

Ethics: FHFA-OIG employees are subject to government-wide ethical standards of conduct, financial disclosure requirements, and post-employment prohibitions. In addition, certain FHFA-OIG employees are prohibited from accepting compensation from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for a two-year period after terminating employment with FHFA-OIG. Furthermore, to avoid financial conflicts-of interest or the appearance of conflicts-of-interest, FHFA-OIG employees may need to divest or sell certain assets they, their spouse, or minor children own or control, including securities issued by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the Federal Home Loan Banks. Employees who work on Federal Home Loan Bank issues may need to sell or divest financial interests with any of the Federal Home Loan Bank members, which may include stock in bank holding companies, insurance companies, and other financial services firms.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

- Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
