Mason LIFE Assistant Director
The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development is seeking a professional faculty member whose responsibilities will include overseeing the housing and community involvement component of the Mason LIFE (Learning Into Future Environments) program. Responsibilities: The Mason LIFE Program (MLP) is a supportive academic university opportunity offering a four-year curriculum of non-credit studies to postsecondary students, 18-23 years of age, with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Assistant Director of MLP will operationally supervise all aspects of Mason LIFE, including the Academic, Employment, Housing, and Community Involvement components of the program. The assigned duties of the position encompass, but are not limited to: supervise support staff; monitor and provide budgetary oversight; manage staff/student ratio; oversee professional development; identify innovative trends within the inclusive postsecondary field; coordinate Person Center Planning meetings; supervise training activities; collaborate with university partners and external stakeholders, to include families; provide individual student interventions as needed; assume Director responsibilities as needed; initiate new procedures as needed; and create written reports when requested.
In addition, the Mason LIFE Assistant Director will help promote the vision and guiding principles of MLP on campus and in the broader community by attending transition fairs and conferences.
Required Qualifications: * An earned master's in special education or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Preferred Qualifications: * Three to five years of experience in an inclusive postsecondary education program and housing/residential supervision experience is highly preferred.
