The Barry Art Museum at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for the Manager of Education and Engagement (full-time, 12 month) position. This position is responsible for the management, implementation, and evaluation of all educational programs, including broadening and developing new museum audiences through engaging, inclusive, and participatory programming. This position will develop, promote, and advocate for the educational mission of the Barry Art Museum within the ODU and regional communities. This position will also collaborate on new educational initiatives and field research relevant to museum education with ODU colleges and research units. This position develops and leads a volunteer group that provides public tours, youth and family programs, and community outreach.

Required Education: Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with advanced certification and/or work experience equivalent to a master’s degree in art, art history, museum studies, or a closely related field.

Required Qualifications: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.). Excellent writing skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including comfort speaking in front of various sized groups and interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds. Strong conceptual grasp of contemporary and leading-edge issues relating to digital learning, formal and informal learning. Ability to maintain order and calm in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment. High standards of organization, attention to detail, reliability, and a professional, pleasant public demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications: Considerable experience in a comparable position within an art museum. Some experience in a supervisory capacity of students and/or volunteers. Some experience developing digital learning tools. Familiarity with new technology (digital documentation, social media, etc.).
