Acoustical Engineer & Sound Design Expert
For an entirely new product line that will change the smart home management landscape in ways that don't yet exist, you'll apply your deep understanding of theoretical acoustics to drive simulation, prototyping, and measurement of components and subsystems including transducers, waveguides, enclosures, ports, and other acoustic elements in our new products. Your founders sold their first company for $300 and this is a chance to get in on the ground floor of something revolutionary with a proven team forging new roads. You're a signal processing guru but also adept with acoustics and, preferably sound design from a physics perspective. For the sound design piece, it's not the idea of coming up with the right collection of sounds to integrate into an overall UI/UX. Rather, we need someone who can craft a synthetic version of a real-world sound. Solve complex acoustic problems while maintaining synergy between product design and sensor detection (we can't explain more here, but would love to tell you more in person): Conduct and review simulation results and validate that the design meets targets Drive the design of acoustic elements in the system including enclosures, ports, and waveguides Develop prototypes, work with technicians to evaluate them in our world-class audio labs, and set up iterative DOEs and simulations to converge on results which meets aggressive performance targets Provide guidance and mentorship to team members to increase their acoustic knowledge and understanding Investigate relevant emerging technologies in the acoustic and audio industries; actively look for new and innovative ways to improve the sound experience for our customers Minimum of BS (MS preferred) in signal processing, acoustics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or an equivalent discipline 5 or more years experience in design and engineering, or acoustic systems engineering Exceptional knowledge of acoustic fundamentals Solid understanding of transducer design and/or digital signal processing Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent products under a tight deadline Decisive, action-oriented team player who learns quickly, drives innovation, and takes ownership of open issues Experience with a variety of acoustic test equipment such as CLIO, Klippel, SoundCheck, Audio Precision, etc. Experience using simulation tools such as LEAP, MatLab, COMSOL, etc. to model and predict audio system performance Personal passion for sound quality and music; active musicians a plus!
