More information is available at www.communityprogress.net JOB SUMMARYThe Director of Development works in partnership with Community Progress' President and CEO to cultivate a stable, diverse, and growing base of funding that enables this $4-million nonprofit organization to fulfill its mission. This position develops and implements a strategy to fundraise for an array of programs that include: technical assistance to local and state governments; policy development at the local, state, and federal levels; the national Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference; trainings and peer learning exchanges primarily for government and nonprofit leaders; a fellowship for grassroots community leaders; and research. The ideal candidate has experience cultivating, securing, and stewarding six- and seven-figure grants for indirect service or policy organizations, preferably in housing, community development, or related fields, as well as experience with even sponsorships, federal grants, individual giving, and staff management. This position will have one full-time direct report. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDevelop and implement a strategy to cultivate a stable, growing, and increasingly diversified base of funding in support of Community Progress' mission;Provide strategic development counsel to Community Progress' President and CEO and Senior Staff, working in partnership to develop compelling program designs and cross-program funding strategies;Represent the Center for Community Progress in meetings with major philanthropic partners and prospects, and effectively steward those relationships toward successful grant awards;Manage the development and implementation of an aggressive strategy to raise $300K+ in corporate and foundation sponsorships for the national Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference, and partner with Senior Staff to cultivate other creative conference revenue streams;Raise sponsorship dollars for smaller-scale events, as needed;Write compelling narratives for corporate, foundation, and government concept note, grant proposals, and reports;In close partnership with the Director of Finance and program directors, develop budgets for new programs and develop appropriate metrics to measure progress and impact for funding proposals;Oversee and/ or manage year-end individual giving campaign;Develop and implement a strategy to grow the organization's base of individual donors;Coordinate the Board of Directors' Fundraising Committee;Nurture a culture of philanthropy among staff and Board Members;Manage grants calendar of deadlines to ensure on-time delivery of required proposals and reports;Oversee and/ or conduct funding prospect research;Oversee and use Salesforce and Salsa CRMs to track funder relationships and individual donors;Manage one full-time junior staff person; andServe on the Senior management team, providing strategic input on organization-wide planning and related activities. QUALIFICATIONSThe Director of Development should:Be a strategic, big-picture thinker, able to identify synergies across program areas that can be leveraged to open new doors for funding;Possess exceptional, versatile writing skills - the sort of top-tier, detail-oriented writer others turn to eagerly for advice;Have experience articulating, in person and in writing, a compelling case for support of indirect services to tackle complex issues, the most profound impacts of which are often felt beyond the time horizon of a twelve-month grant cycle;Have significant experience writing compelling grant proposals and reports for foundations, corporations, and government agencies;Have significant experience raising corporate sponsorships for events, as well as experience stewarding funder relationships, developing program budgets, and developing and implementing individual giving programs;Be an astute observer of trends in philanthropy, broader policy contexts, and the community development and housing fields, and able to shape issue framing for proposals and adapt fundraising strategies accordingly;Have a demonstrated commitment to public service and racial equity, with an enthusiasm for Community Progress' mission;Be able to adapt to a range of work styles to deliver effective proposals and reports;Possess interpersonal skills that embody collaboration and a team-oriented approach;Be an effective project manager, able to successfully oversee multiple simultaneous projects with competing deadlines;Have experience managing staff;Possess excellent oral communication skills; andBe willing to travel approximately 4-6 times per year. Experience fundraising for housing, community development, urban planning, land use policy, neighborhood revitalization, vacant properties, or related issues is a plus. Existing relationships with philanthropic institutions in the fields listed above is a big plus. Familiarity with Salesforce and/ or Salsa is a plus. Spanish fluency is a plus. REQUIREDBachelor's degree and a minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of relevant development experience, including at a management level, or the equivalent combination of a master's degree plus experience.
