Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Consolidated Adjudicatory Boards which are independent quasi-judicial bodies with jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals from decisions from the lower administrative bodies within the Department of Labor.

The incumbent serves as a Legal Assistant (Office Automation) in the Docket Branch of the boards and responsible for records management, maintenance and updating docket folders.

Responsibilities

Duties are described at the GS-7 full performance level.

Complete closeout cases and ensure data is entered in the Boards computer based case tracking system and in all hard copy record system (docket file, docket sheet, closeout log) and makes all appropriate Case Processing System (CPS) entities

Receives and processes incoming mail and prepares reports as necessary. Receives, reviews and files letters of appeal and supporting documents submitted by appellants or their representatives.

Prepares and mails standardized correspondence to appellants or their representatives to secure further information if requirements are not met pursuant to the Board's Rules of Procedure.

Implements appropriate security measures to ensure limited systems access and integrity of case tracking systems and data.

Works with computer specialists in the Information Resources Management staff in resolving problems to ensure effective maintenance of the agency's case tracking and control systems.

Prepares final decisions and orders of the Board for service. Ensures that copies of the final determination are timely served to all parties, the complete close-out data is entered in the Board computer based case tracking system and in all hard-copy record systems.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-06 grade level: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-05 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience performing legal support work relating to the preparation and processing of legal documents, mail and incoming case related materials.

To qualify for the GS-07 grade level: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-06 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience performing legal support work relating to the examination, preparation and processing of legal documents, mail and incoming case related materials using an electronic case tracking system.

Education

Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-06 or GS-07 grade levels.
