Responsibilities

The duties of the Supervisory Program Specialist (CYS Services) include but not limited to the following:
  • Responsible for supervising children/youth in the adult-to-child ration in accordance with all applicable regulations and standards
  • Works in ration 50% of the time providing breaks for assigned staff, modeling appropriate behavior, and providing program oversight and accountability during all hours of program operation
  • Supervises and evaluates employees based on established performance standards as required
  • Provides training for employees as required
  • Ensures children/youth are appropriately supervised at all times.
  • Works with trainer and supervisor to plan, coordinate and implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this position, you must meet all of the requirements in either 1 or 2:
1 a. Successful completion of 4 year college or university degree with a major course of study which directly relates to the appropriate CYS field consistent with School Age Center: the education must have been in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position such as a related behavioral science
1 b. In addition to the basic requirement, you must all possess the following
- experience working as a Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant, Lead Child and Youth Program Technician, Child and Youth Site Leader or as a successful graduate of an Army CYS Services/Land Grant University Intern Program or similar program.
- Ability to select, train, and supervise
- Ability to develop and implement child and youth facility-based programs
- The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent date and recognize solutions
- Must possess comprehensive oral and communications skills and analytical writing skills, and the ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences

OR
2 a. A combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in a subject matter field (24 semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above in 1a), plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course study described above and
2 b. In addition to the basic requirements listed in 2a, you must all possess the following:
- 12 months of directly related work experience as a Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant, Lead Child and Youth Program Technician, Child and Youth Site Lead or as a successful graduate of an Army CYS Services/Land Grant University Intern Program or similar program
- The ability to develop and implement CYS facility-based programs
- The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions
- Comprehensive oral and communications skills and analytical writing skills, and the ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences

*** Highly Preferred applicants will also possess at least 3 or more years as a Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant or Lead Teaching Instructor.
Those applicants that meet the minimum qualifications and the highly preferred criteria will be referred to the selecting official first. All other applicants will be referred if a selection is not made or at management's request.
