Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Department of Medical Services Internal Medicine. Work is performed in a hospital based clinic, where exposure to contagious and infectious disease is common.Regular Tour of duty is 730-1600

Responsibilities

  • Identifies normal and abnormal patient conditions, identifies problems, implements nursing orders, and conducts nursing interventions as prescribed and within scope of practice.
  • Performs all treatments and nursing procedures associated with patient care as directed, indicated, and/or prescribed.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and assists with tests and examinations.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic, therapeutic and/or minor surgical procedures by preparing necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Provide patient education on health promotions and disease management.
  • Inputs data into the computer and retrieves information such as laboratory and diagnostic procedure results.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual season influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempt for medical or religious reasons.
  • This position is covered by the Department of Defense Civilian Employee Drug-Free Workplace Program as a Testing Designated Position (TDP). You will be subject to an initial pre-employment urinalysis screening and random screenings thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Licensure: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Candidates that do not currently have a license but have applied for one must furnish the date which you applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved.

Experience: Applicants must demonstrate in their resume at least one year of pediatric nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as: providing nursing care to patients; monitoring and responding to patient issues; assisting physicians and registered nurses; setting up medical equipment; and reviewing or updating patient records/charts. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service, GS-05, or equivalent.

Some positions allow applicants to substitute education for the required experience (above). For this position, applicants must possess the appropriate required experience. Applicants may not substitute education for any experience
