Position Summary This position provides full-scope Midwifery Care to an established and growing midwifery caseload at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. The candidate assists patients in the office, on labor and delivery, and postpartum. The candidate ensures the safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. The candidate follows established standards, procedures, protocols, and practices, which are developed by The George Washington University Hospital and The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Other duties may be assigned. Works closely with the Director of Midwifery Services and other Faculty Midwives to provide expert leadership in the field of evidence-based midwifery care and normal birth to The George Washington University Department of Ob/Gyn. Educates and supervises resident staff, students, and nurses in patient-centered, evidence-based midwifery management of pregnant women on Labor and Delivery and in the outpatient setting (MFA). Functions as Attending Faculty on labor and delivery, triage, and in the outpatient office setting and practices according to the GW Guidelines for Collaborative Practice and the Standards and Role Definition for Inpatient Midwifery Practice at The George Washington University Hospital. Independently manages patients who are admitted to Labor and Delivery, Triage, and other obstetrical units in collaboration with attending physicians and the house staff. Works collaboratively with the Medical Faculty on Labor and Delivery and in the outpatient setting. Performs outpatient GYN care to include annual exams, contraceptive counseling, minor GYN problem visits, and other related care items. Follows established standards, procedures, protocols, and practices, which are developed by The George Washington University Hospital and The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Licensed to practice as a Midwife in the District of Columbia. Eligible for appropriate appointment to the Medical Staff of The George Washington University Hospital. Education Graduation from an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery along with Master s Degree is required. Licensed to practice as a Midwife in the District of Columbia. Experience Minimum 3 years clinical experience, 5 years preferred. Experience teaching residents, midwifery students, and medical students . Experience and expertise working as a part of a Collaborative Team of Providers. Expert in Primary Cesarean Delivery Prevention and Normal/Natural Birth . Proficient in fetal heart rate monitor interpretation and intermittent auscultation. Experience in research and writing preferred. First Assist, Vacuum Extraction, Ultrasound, IUD Insertion, Endometrial Biopsy, and Colposcopy preferred. Certification Certification by American Midwifery Certification Board Certification in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation
