This position is for a Junior-level Science Writer, supporting NASA's WFIRST Mission. The Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) is a NASA observatory designed to unravel the secrets of dark energy and dark matter, search for and image exoplanets, and explore many topics in infrared astrophysics. The Wide Field Instrument will have a field of view that is 100 times greater than the Hubble infrared instrument, capturing more of the sky with less observing time. The successful candidate will Develop ideas and write stories for publication on nasa.gov, highlighting mission milestones and core science capabilities Work to provide significant editsre-writing for the mission website Collaborate with the project's social media team and video producer to develop complementary products Write background materials, working with project scientists and engineers Develop fact sheets and supplemental outreach materials Clean up the website Requirements At least a Bachelor's Degree in Science or Science journalism. An MS in science journalism will be a plus Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences A background in Astrophysics, Physics, or related subjects is desired He or she should be able to work with relatively little supervision, and to work effectively as part of a team At least 2 years' experience writing about science is required US Citizenship or Greencard is required.
