Summary

About the Position: The incumbent serves as the Medical Department Activity Credentials Program Specialist within the Assistant Chief of Staff, Special Assistants, Medical Staff Services at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. Work is primarily in an office setting, and requires long periods of sitting and reading, plus carrying of light objects such as files and records.

Parking at WRNMMC is limited, the use of commuting alternatives is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a Practitioner Credentials File (PCF) for each physician, advance nurse practitioner, and Allied Healthcare Provider (AHCP) assigned/contracted to the medical treatment facility (MTF).
  • Verify provider?s credential documentation, to include diplomas, licenses, certification, medical specialty training, board certification, continuing medical education credits, etc. according to policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Prepare and maintain a Provider Activity File (PAF) for each privileged provider.
  • Confirm all privileged providers maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and specific privileged providers (i.e. Emergency Medical Service) maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Serve as an authoritative source and assistant to the Commander, Chairperson of Credentials Committee, and supervisor on the clinical privileging requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures for the Provider Credentials/Privileging Program.
  • Research and abstract active and inactive provider files in response to a variety of requests for information on providers privileged by this facility.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing an automated data processing system to accomplish a wide range of statistical and data entry/retrieval tasks in support of administrative work; verifying that providers applying for clinical staff privileges possess appropriate and current qualifications/licensure; prioritizing credentialing actions to ensure providers maintain privileges; and assisting in conducting annual reviews of clinical privileging documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Healthcare Management or Healthcare Administration (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
