Summary

You will serve as a Epidemiologist in the Healthcare Operations Directorate, Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB), Epidemiology & Analysis Sections, U.S. Navy Satellite of DEFENSE HEALTH AGENCY.

Responsibilities

  • You will conduct epidemiologic studies in support of Department of the Navy Occupational Health, Preventative Medicine, Health Promotion, Population Health/Medical Management, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental/Public Health Protection Programs.
  • You will compare outcome objectives for disease prevention and health promotion programs which will enable comparison with other applicable benchmarks.
  • You will identify critical outcomes measures, both morbidity and mortality based, for the evaluation of the effectiveness of clinical services, medical management initiatives, disease prevention programs, and health promotion activities.
  • You will serve as an expert SAS (Statistical Analytical software) coder with computerized database management.
  • You will plan and carry out projects, including assessing project resource requirements.
  • You will provide Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) and Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB) linkage to these databases, receives and provides training to develop professional skills for utilizing these databases.
  • You will provide expert consultation, technical assistance, and expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics and Statistical Analysis System (SAS) coding to staff and customers of the AFHSB and Navy and NMCPHC, EpiData Center Department (EDC).
  • You will provide presentations or briefings on epidemiologic and bio-statistical procedures during workshops, seminars, field training evolutions, and technical courses for AFHSB and NMCPHC staff and customers.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional epidemiologist providing guidance on data studies or statistical analysis to identify trends in human health conditions or diseases.

  • Applicants must possess Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position from an educational program and an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
