Summary

This position is located in the Department of Commerce, Office of the Secretary, Washington, District of Columbia. The primary purpose of this position is to provide electrical support for the Herbert C. Hoover Building. This position will lead, mentor and supervise a team of electricians in their daily assignments, ensuring timely, accurate and complete execution of assigned electrical tasks and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the maintenance and repairs of the electrical systems and components within for the Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB).
  • Training electric shop employees who are responsible for the installation and testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work on the electrical system.
  • Participating with superiors by providing recommendations during initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and providing input in scheduling projected work.
  • Establishing deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on the general work schedule, methods and policies set by superiors.

  • Ability To Lead Or Supervise the most difficult and complex tasks as an expert or have been consulted by other employees in difficult situations performing duties including: Supervising employees who are responsible for the installation and testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work on the electrical systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), lighting control systems, power management systems, circuits, and equipment, such as air conditioning components, lighting, invasion recognition systems, electrical admission controller devices, kitchen appliances, fire recognition and panic systems, batteries and other supplies that generate power in for commercial buildings; OR
  • Ability to lead or supervise a full range of tasks: Training employees who are responsible for the installation and testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work on the electrical systems for sections of commercial buildings; OR
  • Ability to lead or supervise employees in specific electrical tasks and job techniques while assisting the employee to accomplish tasks for the repair of electrical systems in commercial buildings.

This is a supervisory position. Under provisions of the Civil Service Reform Act, first time supervisors and/or managers will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
