Summary

This legal internship is located in the Probate Division of the District of Columbia Superior Court. The Probate Division has an Auditing Branch which is also responsible for auditing fiduciary accounts, reviewing and processing fee petitions, motions, objections, inventories and responses/replies that may be associated with accounts and fee petitions.

This position is open for the Fall semester 2019.

Responsibilities

This position is an unpaid legal internship. The legal intern's major duties are below:
  • Assist in processing fee petitions filed by attorneys and others expert panel members of the Probate Division, to ensure consistency with both legal and auditing principles.
  • Examine statement of services performed for mathematical accuracy.
  • Verify service of all involved parties in underlying cases.
  • Confirm the source of payments.
  • Prepare template transmittals and orders.

  • 3. Must be enrolled in a Law school program
  • 4. Must commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week

Qualifications

Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by Immigration and Naturalization Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old.

Applicant must be enrolled in Law school program.

Applicant must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

The student must be able to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week throughout the semester.

The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect and Transparency.

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts are required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.

Education

To qualify based on education, upload a copy of your college transcript or degree. The transcript must show the name of the college or university, your name, list of courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.

Foreign Education: Education completed outside the United States must have been evaluated by a private U.S. organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials, commonly called a credential evaluation service or education to meet the above requirements.
