Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services in support of Steam Main Propulsion systems aboard naval surface ships.
  • Provide technical assistance on urgent missions affecting major engineering systems.
  • Provide oversight of organized teams in conducting technical service to clients.
  • Perform evaluation and analysis of data associated with engineering design, maintenance procedures and materials.
  • Provide training and guidance shipbuilding, repair/overhaul and testing protocols to supervisory staff.

  • The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing, and crawling in and around the systems/ equipment with marginal accessibility being a frequent problems.
  • Maybe be required standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during a ship visits.
  • Overtime/Shift/Weekend/Holiday Work/Rotating Shifts may be required.
  • Occasional shipboard visits require exposure to discomforts such as high noise levels, high temperatures, and adverse weather.


Qualifications

Recent Graduates Eligibility: Successful completion within the previous two years a qualifying associate, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.

Recent Graduates Eligibility for some Veterans: Eligibility for some Veterans: Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have two years from the date of military separation to apply - not to exceed six years from the date of completion of the degree.
  • Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, a term appointment lasting 1-4 years).
  • To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:
    • Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
    • Demonstrated successful job performance.
    • Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.


All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for professional engineering positions. Applicants who meet these requirements are fully qualified for the specified entry grade (generally GS-05). Applicants who wish to qualify for positions at higher grade levels (generally GS-07 and above) must also meet additional requirements under specialized experience:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-07
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-0 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:

Utilized personal computers and Microsoft Software or equivalent.

Applied communicate effectively, both orally and writing and negotiate solutions to problems.

Provided management advisory and professional engineering services on substantive functions and practices

Assist with familiarizing organizational level maintenance personnel in troubleshooting techniques, maintenance policies.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07. Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position based on one of the options listed A-C below:

A) Superior academic achievement. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
